The Falcon Batchelor Bird of Prey Center

The Falcon Batchelor Bird of Prey Center of the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science is a facility dedicated to the rehabilitation, and release of injured birds. We specialize in raptors that are either resident in Florida and/or migrate through Florida.

Under our wildlife rehabilitation licenses from both the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the US Fish and Wildlife Services we can not accept mammals, domestic fowl, or pets.

There are other local rehabilitation facilities and centers that will accept native and non-native wildlife.

  • Pelican Harbor Seabird Station also accepts birds, but not mammals. They are located at 1279 Northeast 79th Street Miami, FL 33138, phone number (305) 751-9840.
  • The South Florida Wildlife Center accepts all wildlife from Dade, Broward, and West Palm Beach. They are located at 3200 SW 4 Avenue, Fort Lauderdale 33315, phone number (954) 524-4302.

Although the museum is currently closed to the public, the Batchelor Wildlife Center is still accepting injured wildlife from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily. If you are unsure of what animal you have or what you should do, please call our hotline at 305-322-8887 before you bring the animal to the museum. Please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can as our staff may be busy tending to the injured birds we have in the hospital.

Please note that guests entering the property to drop-off injured birds are encouraged to do so from the S. Miami Ave museum entrance (directly across from Vizcaya). The US1 entrance will only be accessible in the morning from 7:30 AM to 11 AM and then again in the afternoon from 4 PM to 6 PM. (The Batchelor Wildlife Center is only open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily.)

Generally if you find a baby animal it is best to leave it alone. Often the animal is not orphaned, and the parent may be out getting food for the animal, or watching the baby. Never pick up baby animals and remove them from their natural environment! If you are calling after hours please visit our webpage for instructions on how to care for the animal until it can be brought to our facility or another rehabilitation facility.
