DONOR RELATIONS MANAGER (Posted August 17th, 2009)

SUMMARY: The Donor Relations Manager is part of the team to implement the Museum’s Annual Campaign and Capital Campaign and general fundraising program including: philanthropy, endowment, community and private foundations, membership, and corporate and individual donors. He/she reports to the Senior Director of Development and shares responsibility for the development and delivery of the fundraising program.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• In addition to the Senior Director of Development, works collaboratively with the Museum President, SVP of Development, and other appropriate staff to develop, manage and implement the Museum’s fundraising plan;

• Manages the strategic identification, qualification, cultivation and stewardship of approximately 150-250 constituents annually, based on a pool of existing donors, members, former Guild and Patron members, Latin American Friends, and prospects gained through vendor relations, facility rentals, museum collaborations, community relations and networking.

• Conducts and coordinates research to secure individual and corporate donations and enhance donor and community relations

• Writes proposals for sponsorships, co-branding, and underwriting as appropriate for foundations and corporations as applicable to exhibitry, programming, and special events (including the annual gala).

• In addition to the Senior Director of Development, works with the Museum President, SVP of Development, VP of Communications and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit, and track current members and prospects for various membership categories

• Performs other job-related work as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Graduate degree in economics, science, business or marketing preferred.
Minimum of 1-2 years managing and cultivating relationships within a development setting. Development and grant writing experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of database management, word processing, spreadsheets, Internet navigation and e-mail systems
• Skill in using tact, diplomacy and persuasiveness in effecting fundraising initiatives
• Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
• Ability to carry out stewardship activities independently
• Ability to carry out research independently
• Ability to develop work plans and annual budgets and identify, secure and manage resources from traditional and non-traditional sources
• Ability to develop and implement long- and short-term goals and objectives
• Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele, peers and staff and answer inquiries from a variety of sources
• Bilingual English/Spanish ability preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Work is normally performed in an interior office environment, using light physical effort, with little or no exposure to physical risk.
