The Museum Needs Your Help!
Dear Friends,
Since 1949, Miami Science Museum has provided award-winning informal and interactive science education to millions in South Florida. Many have fond memories of a laser show, a camp class, a field trip, or a wildlife encounter.
BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT...
- Ours is the first and only science museum in the nation to implement an Upward Bound Math and Science Center! The Center provides academic and career advancement to underserved local high school students 95% of whom have gone on to become the first in their family to enroll in college.
- The Museum’s Planetarium has entertained and enlightened more than 10 million visitors since it opened in 1966! The Planetarium’s Executive Director, Jack Horkheimer, is also seen by more than six million viewers a week on “Star Gazer,” the world’s first and only weekly television series to cover naked eye astronomy and the longest running show on PBS television.
- The Wildlife Center serves as a rehabilitation hospital for injured birds and reptiles! Last year it received and treated 874 injured, orphaned and neglected animals. Of these, an impressive 45% were released back into the wild.
- With continued assistance from you and others, we will move to a new state-of-the-art home in downtown Miami’s Museum Park in 2013! The LEED certified green building will be a world-class exhibit in and of itself, featuring innovative climate-friendly design and permanent exhibits such as a three-story aquarium, a rooftop Wildlife Center, and a floating spherical Planetarium with a digital diode surface that changes nightly.
Miami Science Museum is a non-profit organization, raising most of its funds from grants and donations from individuals and corporations. Because admissions cover only 12% of our annual operating costs, we rely on the generosity of people like you to help us make a difference in the community we serve.
Please make your tax-deductible gift today to ensure that we continue to bring exceptional educational exhibits to South Florida!
Sincerely,

Gillian Thomas
President & CEO
